Conduct & Behaviour

November 13, 2018

Conduct & Behaviour

Recently the Metro Women’s Soccer League has dealt with numerous game ejections/incidents involving coaches and players verbally abusing/assaulting Referees.  BC Soccer has also noted an increase in poor conduct & behaviour incidents towards referees and has asked us to communicate to our membership.

The MWSL deals with such matters seriously and to the letter of the law. It is the responsibility of all MWSL members to be familiar with the governing documents that both the MWSL and BC Soccer have in place including BC Soccer’s Coach’s Code of Conduct.  All ejections are investigated and ruled on by the MWSL and/or BC Soccer.  Sanctions include fines, suspensions and bonds.

Games officials attend your games so that two teams can enjoy playing the game we love. Without them, there would be no game. Verbal abuse/assaults or negative comments towards officials, or anyone for that matter, have no place in the game.

Coaches, be reminded that, as a coach, you are expected to display higher standard of behaviour and be a role model for players, parents and spectators.

We may not be able to get this type of behaviour and conduct out of the game entirely, but we want it out of MWSL games.

Please do your part to help create and maintain a positive, fun, competitive and safe game environment.

Thank-you for your understanding and cooperation.

Bruno Colangeli

MWSL President

Passion to Play Award

MWSL Passion to Play Award

Passion to Play Award (To recognize Courage, Strength, Perseverance & Passion to Play)

If you are aware of any person involved with the MWSL, that has had a struggle or life altering experience and has come back to play Soccer at any level, we would like to hear from you and to recognize this person.  It could be a player, team staff member or a league official.  Candidates will have demonstrated courage, strength, perseverance and a passion to return to the game.

Recipients will be recognized throughout the season in a pre-game ceremony.

Please forward all submission to at anytime during or between the seasons.

League Process

We will view all submissions and present a plaque in person at one of their home games. As a Club, we see that people have difficulties at times and to come back and play with a team, is both therapeutic and a great stress reliever. We would not divulge any information that the individual deems embarrassing or personal. Someone from our executive would contact the team coach/manager and arrive before the game and in your warmup, just announce the award. The award is to show that we appreciate that the person has chosen to come back to the game, for whatever reason and their team wants to show that they are there to support them.

Oct Breast Cancer Awareness Month & CIBC Run for the Cure

Hello MWSL players, coaches, team managers, fans:

It’s that time once again; The CIBC Run for the Cure September 30, 2018, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October

As most of you are aware The Metro Women’s Soccer League is one of the largest female soccer organizations in the country. We strongly feel the importance to unite as women to help and look out for our fellow sisters.  Most of us have been affected or touched by someone with Breast Cancer and this is an opportunity to join together in honouring our loved ones and making a real difference.

We invite all teams/members to get the PINK OUT for all affected and to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The MWSL will support and encourage any team who would like to show their support throughout October by wearing Pink jerseys, Pink accessories during your games. The league will ease up on rules regarding under garment and colouring of accessories providing that no safety issues are created, teams are mindful that jerseys must be numbered and colours are distinguishable between teams.

Please visit or check out the Soccer Express website for some new Pink Products along with the attached flyer. MWSL2018 Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Flyer (1).pdf

We urge teams to use the following:  Pink game balls, Pink warm up/sideline pinnies, Pink banners, wearing Pink accessories such as Pink sweat, hair and arm bands, Pink pro wrap, Pink boots and/or shoelaces, Pink gloves and tape. Find a way find to display it on the field or sideline.

If there are any questions or confusion about uniforms, league rules will apply unless the teams agree otherwise on game day.   The Centre Official on the day will make final decisions if no agreement is reached between teams and we ask that you all respect their decision.

New this year on the MWSL Website is the “Donation Now” button on the front page of the website.  This is to provide direct access to players wanting to donate in a fast and easy way.  100% of the donations will be received by the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.

The MWSL will contribute 5 (five) $50 prizes towards your efforts to raise money for Breast Cancer research.  For a chance to win, send in your best PINK post-game photo.  Including game officials in Pink and your fans donned in Pink in photos will enhance your chance for a prize. We also have a pair of Whitecaps tickets for the team with the best pink outfits

Also, please share your photos so we can add them to our Facebook and Instagram page.

Let’s come together, honour and embrace the colour Pink and all it stands for.

Yours in PINK,
